BATAVIA – Wilmington and Batavia tied 0-0 Thursday in an SBAAC American Division matchup at Holman Stadium on the BHS campus.

Batavia finishes in second in the American Division while Wilmington finished a half game back in third place.

“We’ve been incredibly close to a league title four years in a row, but just missed again,” WHS head coach Kerry Lewis said. “None the less, really proud of our girls and their effort. They’re playing really good soccer right now.”

The shutout for the Hurricane was a fifth straight for goalkeeper KarlieMorgan, who extended her own school record for consecutive shutouts. In all, Wilmington has seven shutouts this season.

Coach Lewis said the WHS back line of Claire Greenlees and Suzannah Johns at outside-back, and Sophie Burt and Jenna Victor at center-back helped key the Lady Hurricane defensive effort.

“Game was dead even,” Lewis said. “High quality soccer from both clubs. We had our chances. Neither team had an baundance of scoring opportunities, but we certanly had a few good looks. Credit to their defense and keeper for keeping us off the scoreboard. They (Batavia) played well, too.”
