Hurricane runs away from Blue Lions 49-28

WASHINGTON CH — Wilmington quarterback Matt Creditt had two long touchdowns runs in the first quarter and the Hurryin’ Hurricane steamrolled Washington Senior 49-28 Friday night in South Central Ohio League football action at Gardner Park.

The win keeps the Hurricane in a first-place league tie with Clinton-Massie and Chillicothe. All three teams are 4-0 in league play.

Wilmington is 6-1 overall.

Washington drops to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league action.

Creditt scored four touchdowns on the night, including long runs of 72 and 51 yards in the first quarter.

Washington made a game of by halftime as the two teams put on a show in Fayette County. Despite a Dylan Beaugard TD run in the second period, the Blue Lions scored twice to make it 21-14 at the intermission.

But the Hurricane came out fired up in the third quarter, scoring two quick touchdowns to put the game out of reach, 35-14. The first score came when Wilmington recovered a Washington fumble on the opening kickoff.

Austin Camp had an interception for the Hurricane.

Wilmington had 524 yards of offense but surrendered 425 yards to the Blue Lions. Both teams recorded the majority of their yardage on the ground — Washington carried 42 times for 254 yards, while Wilmington carried 44 times for 481 yards.

Wilmington will wrap up its two-game Fayette County run by traveling to Eber on Friday to face Miami Trace. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
