WC cross country wraps up season at GLR meet

POWELL, Ohio- Several members of the Wilmington College men’s and women’s cross country teams finished out the 2017 season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday morning.

The women did not field a team, as only three members participated. The men, however, competed with five runners and finished 33rd.

For the women, sophomore Allison Helmke was the first Fightin’ Quaker to cross the finish line in the women’s 6K race. She finished 166th out of the 247-runner field with a time of 26:04.7.

Freshman Summer Doty ran in next, exactly a minute later, with a time of 27:04.7, to earn 193rd-place. Freshman McKenzie Hamm, a graduate of Blanchester High School, posted a 28:09.3 and finished 218th.

On the men’s side, freshman Ryan Honkomp crossed the finish line first for the Fightin’ Quakers in the 8K race. His time of 28:24.9 was good enought for 155th-place.

Next in was sophomore Cameron Phelps was 167th with a time of 28:42.8. The pair of junior Gage Egner and senior Cameron Erwin crossed the finish line four seconds and one place apart. Egner, a Blanchester High School product, ran was 186th with a time of 29:24.5 and Erwin was 187th with a time of 29:28.1.

Freshman Gage Clemens was 222nd in 30:42.6.
