The Blanchester eighth grade girls basketball team defeated Western Brown 24-19 Wednesday in the season opener.

Coach Gary Stanforth said his team struggled early but came out in the second half “refreshed” and pulled out the win.

Taylor Combs had a three-pointer en route to an eight point performance.

Grace Irwin had six points, including a three-pointer, while Madison Creager had five points. Daelyn Staehling had three points and Zoie Stanforth contributed two points.
