WILMINGTON – Mount Union outscored Wilmington 11-1 in the final 3:01 Saturday en route to a 76-73 win in Ohio Athletic Conference men’s basketball action at Fred Raizk Arena.
Wilmington (3-3, 0-1) seemed to have the game in control with a 72-65 advantage on Andrew Russell’s basket.
But the Quakers committed four turnovers, missed two field goal attempts and went just 1 for 4 at the free throw line in the closing minutes. Up to that time, Wilmington had made 22 of 24 free throws.
Meanwhile, Mount Union (5-1, 1-0) was 1 for 2 from the field but more importantly – as WC continued to foul – the Purple Raiders were 9 for 10 at the free throw line.
Christian Jones led WC with 17 points. Russell had 7 of WC’s 21 rebounds but the Quakers were outrebounded 37-21.
