WC women start fast, defeat Mount Union 75-67

ALLIANCE – Wilmington parlayed a fast start into a 75-67 win over Mount Union Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball action at The MAAC on the MU campus.

The Quakers are now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. The Purple Raiders drop to 2-4, 0-1.

Faith Teaford led Wilmington with 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting.

Savannah Hooper had a hot-shooting game and finished with 18 points. She was 6 for 8 from the field, which included 3 of 4 beyond the arc. The Wilmington High School graduate also was 3 of 4 from the free throw line. Hooper had 4 assists.

Wilmington scored 30 points in the first quarter and led by as many as 17 in the OAC road battle. However, Mount Union pulled within four at halftime, 40-36,

Wilmington maintained its lead but could never pull away from the host school. It was a 62-59 WC lead with 2:39 to play in the fourth period. Teaford converted a three-point play then made a jumper at 1:34 to push the lead back to 70-62. Mackenzie Campbell assisted on both baskets.

Hooper had an assist and hits 1 of 2 at the line in the final 34 seconds to keep WC on top.
