TIFFIN – Mackenzie Campbell’s basket with four seconds remaining lifted Wilmington to a 70-68 win Saturday over Heidelberg in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball action.

The victory puts Wilmington at 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC. The ‘Berg drops to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Campbell finished with a game-best and career-high 29 points, hitting 10 of 16 from the field and 8 of 9 at the free throw line.

Thanks to Faith Teaford’s three-pointer, Wilmington led from the outset and built a 13-point bulge in the second quarter, 25-12. Teaford led WC with 10 points in the first half. McKayla Binkley had seven in the opening period. Campbell had just eight points.

But her best was yet to come.

And Wilmington needed it.

Heidelberg rallied to tie the game at 32-32. The Student Princes then took a four-point lead 40-36 midway through the third. It was 45-45 with less than three minutes to play in the third when the Lady Quakers attempted to put the game away.

Campbell started an 11-2 run with two free throws, then a steal and layup. Emily Harman had a stickback basket and later converted a layup that made it 55-47.

Wilmington’s lead was still five, 61-56, with 7:43 to play in the fourth. The ‘Berg rallied to take the lead, 65-64, with 3:12 to play. Campbell then scored the final six points of the game for WC, the final two coming in the waning seconds of the game.
