Late goal ends BHS girls season

BLANCHESTER — Norwood scored in the 75th minute Monday and defeated Blanchester 1-0 in a girls soccer Div. II Sectional match at Barbour Memorial Field.

The Ladycats finish their season at 11-5-1.

“Even though we lost, I’m proud of the effort from the ladies (in this game) and all season,” said BHS coach Kurt Ballinger. “They left it all on the field and that’s all a coach can ask for.”

Gabby Smith of Norwood scored the game’s only goal.

Ballinger said the first half was back and forth with both teams having chances to score but both teams were turned away from solid defense in front of the keepers.

Blanchester’s best chance came when Sierra Drake had a shot from the back post but it sailed high and the teams were tied 0-0 at the intermission, Ballinger said.

Ballinger said BHS goalkeeper Regan Ostermeier had 12 saves.

Seniors Audrey Jordan and Tristan Culberson “had strong games” in the final soccer match for BHS, Ballinger said.
