’Cats clobber Broncos 5-1

BLANCHESTER — Rallying from an early deficit, the Blanchester High School boys soccer team defeated Western Brown 5-1 Wednesday in a Div. II Sectional tournament match at Barbour Memorial Field.

The Wildcats, now 14-1-2, will face the tournament’s No. 1 seed McNicholas 3 p.m. Saturday. The Rockets are ranked No. 8 in the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association state poll.

Blanchester trailed 1-0 in the early minutes of the game but Sam Schafer’s goal midway through the first half tied the match and the Wildcats never looked back.

Wildcats keeper Dakota Penquite made 22 saves on the evening fueling the team with excitement and the ability to overcome the early deficit, coach Troy Ballinger said.

Goals for the Wildcats were scored by captain Logan Swinderman, captain Dade Coyle, Topher Farrow and Schafer, who had two.

Assists were provided by Jacob Burden and Schafer.
