Blanchester wins SBAAC junior high wrestling championship

BLANCHESTER – With three weight class champions, the Blanchester Middle School wrestling team won the SBAAC tournament championship Saturday.

Runnerup was Wilmington’s Rodger O. Borror Middle School, 28.5 points behind the Wildcats.

“These guys really picked it up the last two weeks,” Blanchester coach Ryan Shafer said. “They worked harder and were more focused the week leading up to this tournament. They showed a lot of fight in all their matches. I am very pleased with our performance.”

Adam Frump, Levi St. John and Zane Panetta were SBAAC champions for Blanchester.

Team scores had Blanchester with 202, Borror 173.5, Clinton-Massie 137, Bethel-Tate 137, Western Brown 114, Batavia 75, New Richmond 75, East Clinton 65, Williamsburg 26, Clermont Northeastern 25.5, Goshen 11.

Thane McCoy of Rodger O. Borror won the 86 pound weight class with a 6-4 overtime decision against Grant Moorman of Clinton-Massie.

Malachi O’Leary of Clinton-Massie won the 104 pound championship with a 15-4 win over Carson Curless of Blanchester.

Frump pinned his opponent in 3:47 to win the title at 110 pounds. Teammate St. John made quick work of his rival with a pin in 33 seconds to win the 116 pound crown.

Wilmington’s Brayden Smith pinned in 1:52 to win the 150 pound weight class.

Zane Panetta, Blanchester’s final weight class champion, recorded a 14-8 decision to win the 160 class.

Jayden Doyle of Borror posted a pin in 2:52 over Blanchester’s Jacob Lanham for the 205-pound weight class championship.
