NR grad Burnam leads Quakers at Emory Inv.

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wilmington College men’s track and field team finished 10th Saturday at the season-opening Emory Invitational.

Pierce Burnam took home the lone victory for the Quakers. The New Richmond High School product won the 400-meter hurdles on Friday in 54.19 seconds.

Burnam also was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.67 seconds) and eighth in the triple jump (12.65 meters).

Kalvin Butts led the way for the Quakers in the throwing events, earning a second-place finish in the discus (43.64 meters) and a second in the hammer throw (54.01 meters).

Joe Holcomb, a Blanchester High School graduate, was fourth in the shot put (13.81 meters) and ninth in the discus (38.97 meters).

Antone Truss was runnerup in the high jump, clearing 2.00 meters. Joe Shuga was seventh (39.54 meters) in the discus and eighth in the shot put (12.88 meters).

The Quakers will be back in action on Friday at the Wittenberg Invitational.
