LEES CREEK – Dylan Michael singled home Tristan Burkitt with the winning run in the seventh inning Friday as East Clinton rallied to defeat Georgetown 5-4 in SBAAC National Division baseball action at the EC diamond.
The Astros are 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the National Division.
“Give credit to Georgetown; they came out to play and hit the gaps in our defense,” EC coach Brian Carey said. “We came out a little flat and made some baserunning errors that cost us.”
East Clinton trailed 4-2 going to the sixth but tied the game by scoring on a passed ball and a single by Colton Vadness.
In the seventh, Burkitt reached on an error, stole second and went to third on a groundout by Zach Mitchell. Rather than walking the bases loaded with meaningless runners, Georgetown pitched to Michael who singled to center with Burkitt scoring the winning run.
Matthew Hall came on in relief of Austin Arellano and earned the pitching victory.
“We knew when we shut them down in the seventh, we had the momentum,” Carey said. “This team is showing fight.”
