MIAMISBURG — Alex “Tank” Smith, Daveion Smith and Andrew Potts made key special teams plays Saturday as the Wilmington Orange fourth grade football team defeated Miamisburg 36-34 Saturday in a Western Ohio Junior Football Conference tournament game.

The win puts the Wilmington Orange squad in the semifinal round at Alumni Field. The young Hurricane will face Kettering Blue at noon Saturday on the WHS field.

Meadowdale Black and Kettering Gray will play in the other semifinal game noon Saturday at Greenville High School.

Alex Smith provided the winning margin with his two-point kick following Michael Brown Jr.’s third touchdown of the game, which was made possible thanks to a critical block by Aaron Fleak.

However, Miamisburg scored a touchdown to pull within two in the overtime, but Potts blocked the extra point kick to preserve the victory.

With Wilmington trailing 28-22, Daveion Smith blocked a Miamisburg punt with 12 seconds left in regulation that put Wilmington in scoring position. Brown scored from 17 yards out to tie the game and send the two teams into overtime.

Wilmington trailed 12-0 but Brown put the Hurricane on the scoreboard with a 43-yard touchdown run. Alex Smith’s PAT made it 12-8.

After the Wilmington defense stopped Miamisburg, the Hurricane took the lead on Landon Flint’s one-yard touchdown run. Alex Smith’s PAT made it 16-12.

Owen Withers scored on a six-yard touchdown run but Miamisburg regained the lead 28-22 with 3:00 to play in the game.

Wilmington drove the ball inside the 1 but was unable to score and Miamisburg took over. After recording one first down, the Wee Vikes were forced to punt, setting up Daveion Smith’s block.
