Baltazar leads Lady Hurricane to Wightman Invitational title

LEES CREEK – Led by Sylena Baltazar, the Wilmington High School girls track and field team easily outdistanced the field Tuesday at the Brett Wightman Invitational at ECHS.

The Lady Hurricane finished with 167 points, besting runnerup Clinton-Massie who had 94.5. East Clinton was sixth while a Clinton-Massie B team finished eighth.

Baltazar, a freshman at Wilmington, won the 100-meter dash (13.1), the 400-meter dash (65.2), the 200-meter dash (27.9) and was part of the winning 4×400-meter relay (4:37.9). Other relay members were Sophie Burt, Hannah Joeckel and Petra Bray.

Josie Nichols for WHS won the 800-meter run and Joeckel hit the line first in the 300-meter hurdles (52.0).

Burt, Nichols, Bray and Autumn Housh teamed to win the 4×800-meter relay (10:45.6).

For Clinton-Massie, Rylee Richardson sprinted her way to a title in the 100-meter hurdles (16.6) then ran with Molly Lynch, Ally Wellman and Nora Voisey to win the 4×100-meter relay (56.1).

East Clinton picked up a win in the long jump, where Emma Malone went 12-10 to top the field.
