LEES CREEK – Harlie Bickett’s two-run homerun in the sixth inning Saturday lifted Wilmington to a 4-3 win over East Clinton in non-league softball action.
“A good, clean game by both teams,” WHS coach Glen Blessing said. “Great game to be a part of.”
Wilmington trailed 3-1 after East Clinton plated two runs in the first and another in the second.
The Lady Astros fast start was short-lived as Olivia Veidt retired the final 13 batters she faced.
Wilmington pulled within one when Emily Self tripled home Veidt then Bickett ripped a two-run homer in the sixth.
“Probably the difference in this game was the extra-base hits,” Blessing said. “Harlie came up big with a runner on. We had a lot of hard hit balls today, but right at people.
“East Clinton made some good defensive plays, especially (Kaitlin) Durbin’s catch in the seventh that ended a bases loaded threat. She went hard into foul territory and crashed into the fence, reached over the fence and caught the ball. Just love seeing effort plays like that, no matter which team makes the play.”
