BHS, WHS play to 1-1 tie on the pitch

WILLIAMSBURG – Blanchester gave up a controversial goal in the second half and tied Williamsburg 1-1 Tuesday in a SBAAC National Division match at WHS.

After a scoreless first half, Blanchester netted the first goal of the match. Off a corner kick, Colton Wilson served the ball off the corner and Carter Stevens headed the ball into the back of the net, BHS coach Troy Ballinger said.

Later in the match, Williamsburg appeared to score a goal but officials huddled to determine the fate of the shot.

Ballinger said the “controversial goal” came when officials had to decide “if the ball struck the out-of-bounds field goal post directly overhead, or the top of the soccer crossbar which directly led to a ball dropping in front of the goal,” Ballinger said.

“After much deliberation, Williamsburg was allowed the goal,” said Ballinger.

Gavin Colebank made 14 saves in goal for Blanchester. Ballinger said BHS had a strong defensive effort the entire match.
