GOSHEN – With Rachel Barker winning at third singles in the final match of the night, the Wilmington High School girls tennis team defeated previously unbeaten Goshen 3-2 in SBAAC American Division play.

The Lady Huricane is 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the American Division.

“This was a huge win for our team,” WHS coach Doug Cooper said. “Our singles courts proved to be just too much for Goshen. They were smart to augment their doubles lineup but we were just too deep. Our players realized we had our own fate in our hands in and won in a must-win situation on the road.”

Claire Burns moved to first singles for the first time this season and handed Caroline Clifton a 6-0, 6-1 defeat.

Allie Kees also posted a singles victories for the Lady Hurricane.

But the match was tied 2-2 with Barker still on the court at third singles.

“Rachel’s third set performance was phenomenal,” said Cooper. “She is a true competitor. The whole match rested on her shoulders and she came through for her teammates.”

Barker came out on top 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to put WHS on top 3-2.
