Woods sets another mark, CM girls golfers in control

WILMINGTON – With nine holes to play, Clinton-Massie has all but wrapped up team and individual honors in the SBAAC girls golf league.

On Tuesday at the Elks 797 Golf Course, Gabby Woods broke her own Clinton-Massie 18-hole record and the Lady Falcons stretched their league lead to 68 strokes over Clermont Northeastern.

The girls golfers in the SBAAC are scheduled to convene 4 p.m. Tuesday at Snow Hill Country Club to close out the league season.

“I’m very proud of the girls and the work they have put in,” CM coach Tim McGraw said. “Winning league and the league tournament were goals we set this year and goals we knew we were capable of reaching.”

Just nine holes stands between the Lady Falcons and Woods and the 2018 SBAAC girls golf title.

Last year’s league champion was Clermont Northeastern. The Lady Rockets this year will likely put three golfers on the first team All-SBAAC squad and still finish a distant second to Massie.

This is the second year girls golf has been a championship sport in the SBAAC.

Individually, Woods double bogeyed her first hole then played the remaining 17 holes at 1-under par to finish with a 1-over 72. The 72 is a new school record. Woods had the previous mark when she posted a 77 at the CNE Rocket Shootout to begin the season.

Woods has a 248 stroke total while Lilly Middleton of Wilmington is currently second with 314 strokes. She leads the third-place golfer by eight strokes.

Massie’s Abby Schneider had a personal best 18-hole score of 98 on Tuesday.

Middleton had an 83 for the Lady Hurricane, who were third with a team total of 407.

East Clinton’s Marci Ellis and Blanchester’s Regan Grogg also played in the event.
