BATAVIA – A strong second half offensive effort fell short Tuesday as the Wilmington High School boys soccer team was defeated by Batavia 1-0 in SBAAC American Division action.

The Hurricane falls to 5-4-1 on the year and 1-3-1 in the American Division.

The Bulldogs are 3-2 in division play.

“Batavia like many of the teams in the SBAAC was big and physical,” WHS coach Imad El-Macharrafie said. “We pushed hard for a goal all second half but just couldn’t find the net.”

Collin Webber made nine saves in goal for Wilmington.

Batavia scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute.

“We are working hard to play possession soccer but physical, aggressive teams are proving to be disruptive to what we are trying to accomplish. We need to rest up before we travel to Lynchburg on Thursday.”
