LEES CREEK — Miami Trace used its defense to stymie East Clinton Tuesday night in a runaway 57-26 South Central Ohio League girls basketball win.
The Lady Astros drop to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the league. Miami Trace is 1-1, 1-0.
Hanna Reisinger of Miami Trace led all scorers with 16 points. Tanner Bryant had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
For East Clinton, Kaitlyn Durbin had 7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Three other players — Allison Tong, Ciarra Cooper and Marissa Williams — scored 4 points each.
The Lady Astros shot just 9 of 39 from the floor and committed 28 turnovers.
Trace held a 44-29 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Astros, still playing without point guard MacKenzie Campbell, led 7-5 when Bre Davis went coast to coast with a layin at the 3:15 mark.
But the Lady Panthers closed the quarter with a 9-4 run. Durbin gave EC life with a stickback basket off a missed free throw with 38 seconds to play in the first.
In the second quarter, though, it was all Miami Trace. The Lady Panthers scored the first 11 points of the quarter and raced out to a 25-11 lead. Reisinger had 6 points in the quarter and Ritenour and Campbell added 4 each.
In the third, EC made it 38-21 when Davis scored off a missed free throw. But the Lady Panthers countered with 11 unanswered points to put to rest any thoughts of a Lady Astros comeback.
