LYNCHBURG – Brady Vilvens scored a pair of goals in each half as Wilmington defeated Lynchburg-Clay 2-0 Thursday in a non-league match in Highland County.
Collin Webber turned back 15 Mustang shots to record the shutout for the Hurricane.
“Great shut-out by our entire defense,” WHS coach Imad El-Macharrafie said. “Nice to see players rebound from a couple rough outings. We are a quality team when we stick to the game plan.”
Vilvens, with help from Josh Vaughan, gave WHS a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. As it turned out, Webber and the WHS defense made that stand.
But Vilvens added an unassisted insurance goal in the 56th minute.
