Week 5 Final: Goshen 32 Blanchester 13

0

BLANCHESTER — Despite outgaining Goshen by almost 150 yards of offense, Blanchester was forced to watch the Warriors walk out of Barbour Memorial Field Friday night with the King of the Road trophy once again.

Goshen scored 19 unanswered points Friday to break a 13-all halftime deadlock and defeat Blanchester 32-13.

Blanchester (0-5) sustained long drives, but couldn’t finish them. Three Blanchester drives ended inside the Goshen 35, and two of those ended inside the Goshen 20.

Three other Wildcat drives ended in turnovers – two interceptions and a fumble. After all three Blanchester turnovers, Goshen took the ensuing drive for a touchdown.

The Wildcats also attempted a fake punt on fourth and 30 from its own 14 with a minute left in the third quarter.

Goshen (3-2) scored on the next play to expand its lead to 26-13 after three quarters.

“We lack focus,” BHS head coach Brandon Sammons said. “During the week and during games. We drop balls. We don’t finish things. That’s starting to kill us. We can do the easy things when they’re presented to us. When the going gets tough, we’re not executing.”

Hunter and Adam Slusher led the ground-based Goshen attack that rushed for 261 yards on 47 carries. Hunter finished with 92 yards on 13 carries while Adam had 58 yards on 10 carries.

For Blanchester, the opportunities were there, but the Wildcats couldn’t capitalize.

“We have some guys that pour their absolute heart into everything,” Sammons said. “We’re not getting it across the board. They played with great effort, but the selfishness (cost) us. We can’t put it all together.”
