MARIETTA – For Clinton-Massie tennis teammates were on opposite sides of the net Saturday at Marietta College.

Claire Carruthers of Shawnee State University and Anne Thompson of Marietta College played head to head at fourth singles.

Thompson won the match 7-5, 6-4 in a “great battle of ground strokes,” Clinton-Massie head coach Lynn Deatherage said.

Carruthers played third doubles and won two matches while Thompson won two matches at second doubles. The two also won singles matches against a player from Concordia (Mich.).

“It’s amazing what a month of college coaching has done to improve their game play,” Deatherage said. “These college freshmen are both making an immediate impact on their Division III college team.”

Both Thompson and Carruthers were first team All-SBAAC players in 2017 and won 20-plus matches for the Lady Falcons.
