MASON – The tennis season for Clinton-Massie’s Nina Lazic ended Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the Division II sectional tournament at Mason High School.

Lazic lost to No. 2 seed Abby Nugent of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 6-0, 6-0.

“Nina played great tennis and maintained a number of rallies,” CM coach Lynn Deatherage said. “Nugent has been playing since age 4 and travels the USTA junior circuit. There is no good way in Clinton County to prepare for that level of competition.”

Lazic ends the year with an overall 18-7 record.

Deatherage said fellow SBAAC competitors also were eliminated in the quarterfinal round by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Batavia’s Elise Neal against No. 1 seed Elizabeth Fahrmeier of Summit Country Day and Goshen’s Sami Huhn against No. 3 seed Hailey Hirsch of Indian Hill.

“In a show of great sportsmanship, Huhn and Lazic warmed up together and joked about their expectations for the upcoming matches,” Deatherage said. “They each lasted about 45 minutes. Lazic reached deuce twice. The day punctuated the difference in public school versus private school spending and preparation in girls tennis.”
