WILMINGTON – Autumn Housh scored the game-winning goal with 15:30 to play in Tuesday’s match to give Wilmington a 2-1 win over Trotwood-Madison in Division I sectional tournament play at Alumni Field.

Wilmington will play at No. 2 seed Waynesville 7 p.m. Saturday in the second round of the tournament.

“We face a big task on Saturday,” WHS coach Alex Rhinehart said. “In any tournament you eventually have to beat the top seeds. Why not start now?”

Jordan Snarr gave the Lady Hurricane 1-0 lead with a first half goal and WHS carried that to the lockerroom at the half.

The Rams tied the match with approximately 20 minutes to play then Housh buried the game-winner a few minutes later.

“There is a lot of praise to go around,” Rhinehart said. “You can start with Trotwood. They showed up to play. They strung together several dangerous counterattacks and manage to score on one and were close on a few others.”

As for the Lady Hurricane, Rhinehart said it was a team effort.

“Jordan Snarr put together one of her best games,” he said. “She had several good looks at goal and converted right before half. Petra Bray put together one of her best games of the season defensively. Petra played a very physical game and combined that with finding teammates efficiently to start the offensive attack.

“Finally, Autumn Housh buried the winning goal into the back of the net off a beautiful set piece after drawing the foul right outside the box.”
