BLANCHESTER – For the third time this season, the Blanchester volleyball team was defeated by Williamsburg.
The latest loss came Wednesday in a Division II district semifinal match at Blanchester High School, 25-5, 27-25, 25-7.
“The girls came out and gave it their all,” BHS coach Jenna Weisflock said. “How they played really showed how the girls developed and got better, not only physically but mentally, this season.”
Williamsburg, undefeated champions of the SBAAC National Division, advances to the district championship match Saturday at Northmont High School.
WHS is 20-4 on the year.
Blanchester lost to Williamsburg 3-0 in both regular season matches and it seemed Wednesday would be a quick 3-0 outcome again.
But after dropping the opening set, BHS bounced back to take a 7-1 lead in the second set. ‘Burg bounced back to take a 19-4 lead but with Kelli Hoffman serving, Blanchestser grabbed a 20-19 advantage.
The Clinton County Ladycats were unable to get that set point and eventually fell 27-25.
Williamsburg took control early in the third set and ended the Blanchester season.
“I am really going to miss my seniors and everything they brought to the program,” the BHS coach said. “Best of luck to them.”
Weisflock said Brooklyn Bockstiegel “stepped in to fill a position I needed her to and she did it without hesitation. She played really well.” Bockstiegel finished with five kills, two blocks and two perfect passes.
Holly Scott had 12 assists, a dig, three perfect passes and two points. Madison Creager had a dig, two perfect passes and seven points. Morgan Oberle contributed four blocks, four kills, a dig, 11 perfect passes and two points.
Kassidy Abney chipped in with an assist, two digs, eight perfect passes and a service point. Ally Davis recorded three kills, six perfect passes and three points. Kelli Hoffman had a dig, three perfect passes, and five points. Molly Campbell had a perfect pass.
