ADA – The Wilmington College women’s swim team was defeated by Ohio Northern University 184 to 77 Friday night.

“I was very happy with the team atmosphere at our first away meet,” said WC head coach Trip Breen said. “We have a lot of new swimmers and the team really supported each other.”

Macki Leon again headlined the Quakers’ individual performances by winning the 100-yard individual medley (1:08.12) by two full seconds and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.27). She also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.27).

Margaret Hover won the 500-yard freestyle (5:57.93) by beating Kelly Grimes of ONU by a little more than a second. Hover also finished runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke (32.81) and had a third-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:11.01).

Leon and Hover teamed with Hannah Davis and Maryn Herring for a time of 1:50.39 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

“We showed improvement from our first meet after a great week of practice,” said Breen. “They are definitely putting some things together and finishing races better. We still are making too many little mistakes that were costly today in a few close races.”

Wilmington returns to the water Saturday for a double dual meet with Transylvania University and Wittenberg University.
