WC women harass Hiram for win in home pool

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College women’s swim team handed Hiram a 140-74 loss in a dual meet held at the Wilmington College Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

Rebecca Curran won two individual events for the Fightin’ Quakers, the 50-meter breaststroke (40.28) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:27.57).

Hannah Davis also was a multi-event winner for WC, claiming the 50-meter freestyle (30.63) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:07.61).

Rounding out the multi-event winners for the Quakers was Maryn Herring as she won the 50-meter butterfly (34.37) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:16.63).

Four individuals won a single individual event for Wilmington. Macki Leon swam the quickest time in the 200-meter freestyle (2:24.47), Ellyse Herr won the 50-meter backstroke (37.54) and Kadie Grundy won the 100-meter backstroke (1:19.89).

Margaret Hover claimed the title in the 800-meter freestyle (10:35.2) as well as finishing second in the 400-meter freestyle (5:11.87).

Wilmington’s relay team in the 200-meter medley of Grundy, Kassidy Rogers, Davis and Leon won the event with a time of 2:22.57.

WC swims next in the Mid-Season Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University Nov. 17-18.

“This was our last dual for the fall semester as we are looking forward to the two-day invitational we are competing in next weekend,” said coach Trip Breen. “The opportunity to race two consecutive days will help us continue to prepare for our championship meet at the end of the season.”
