Red-hot Doyle paces BHS over FHS 73-41

BLANCHESTER — Rachael Doyle hit 10 of 11 shots and finished with 21 points as Blanchester defeated Felicity 73-41 in the Southern Buckeye Conference National Division opener at the BHS gym.

The Ladycats are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Many of Doyle’s shots originated close to the basket but, regardless of proximity, she managed to convert. That isn’t always the case on even the easiest of shots.

“We shot it pretty well,” BHS coach Bennie Carroll said. “Offensively we played pretty well. Rachael attacked the basket. Most of the shots were layups but you still have to make them.”

Sarah Burton had 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting while Tristan Culberson drained a trio of 3-point attempts and finished with 9 points.

Blanchester led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter and then 43-29 at halftime. Despite playing well at the offensive end, the Ladycats couldn’t completely shake the pesky Lady Cardinals.

“We weren’t as good defensively as we have been,” said Carroll. “We gave them some easy stuff. We weren’t as sharp.”

Blanchester has not played in a week.

“We played hard the whole game and we hurt them with our press,” said Carroll.

Ashley Moore was the main offensive threat for Felicity but when she went to the bench with 4 fouls in the third quarter BHS took advantage and closed with a 62-33 advantage.

“She’s a good player,” Carroll said of Moore.
