BEREA, Ohio – Wilmington College wrestling freshman Issa Khalil finished fifth place in the 197-pound division at the Baldwin Wallace University Invitational on Saturday.

Khalil won his quarterfinal round match 7-2 by decision over Andrew Bachie of Baldwin Wallace after receiving a bye in the first round. Khalil then lost by fall Gage Gladysz of Thiel College and Christopher Head of Baldwin Wallace before defeating Dalton Hoover of Wheeling Jesuit University by forfeit.

Overall, Khalil’s fifth-place finish is the highest finish for an individual since the Fightin’ Quakers reinstated the program this season.

Gabe Obregon and Seth Jermer competed in the 133-pound and 285-pound divisions respectively, but did not win a match.

“We are making great strides each week,” Head Wrestling Coach Justin Kihn said. “Congrats to Issa [Khalil] on being the first tournament placer for our program this year.”

Wilmington travels to Muskingum University for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) dual meet on Tuesday.
