BLANCHESTER – Elecia Patton had 17 of her 26 points in the second half Monday as Blanchester defeated Batavia 54-45 Monday in season opening non-league girls basketball action at BHS.

Patton, in a strong all-around performance, also had six rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Blanchester made 15 free throws.

“Games are always easier when you take advantage of free points,” BHS coach Bradon Pyle said. “We have been stressing free throw shooting in practice and have a team goal of shooting 60 percent. So far we are off to a good start in that regard.”

Lilly Brown had 14 points and seven rebounds in her first varsity start. Olivia Gundler tossed in eigth for the Ladycats.

Patton had six and Gundler five in the opening quarter but Blanchester trailed 14-13.

Brown then hit on eight in the second and Patton nine in the third as the Ladycats took control of the game.

Of Brown, Pyle said, “She ran the court very well and finished the good looks she got. She also provided some stability on the defensive boards by giving us more of a post presence.”
