JAMESTOWN – A sluggish second half spelled doom for East Clinton Saturday in a 66-49 loss to Greeneview in a non-league meeting of former Kenton Trace Conference rivals.

East Clinton, now a member of the SBAAC National Division, is 0-3 on the year. Greeneview, of the Ohio Heritage Conference, is 1-2.

Matt Mitchell scored eight in first quarter, including a couple of three-pointers and the Astros trailed by three, 15-12, after one. Greeneview’s Cole Allen had eight first quarter points as the teams went toe to toe.

But East Clinton turned things around and held a 26-25 lead at halftime.

Branson Smith was held scoreless in the first quarter but had five in the second and four in both the third and fourth periods.

However, Allen received scoring help in the form of Gabe Caudill who had eight points to Allen’s seven in the third and the Rams pulled away.

Greeneview, despite making just 3-of-7 free throws in the game, led 45-24 after three and Caudill closed the lid on the contest with 11 in the fourth as Greeneview held a 21-15 edge.

After going 1-for-5 in the first half from the free throw line, East Clinton was 7-for-9 at the line in the final period. Smith was 4-for-4.
