BLANCHESTER — Despite a poor night at the free throw line, the Blanchester girls basketball team remained unbeaten with a 46-38 win over Williamsburg Monday in a Southern Buckeye Conference National Division contest at the BHS gym.

The Ladycats are now 5-0 on the year, 3-0 in the SBCN.

Tristan Culberson led Blanchester with 13 points. She canned a pair of 3-pointers in the first half. Kayla Dugger had 10 points, including 1 first half 3-pointer.

“Those 3s kinda kept us in it in the first half,” said BHS coach Bennie Carroll.

Rachael Doyle had 11 points for Blanchester.

BHS trailed most of the first half and third quarter. Quarters stops had WHS on top 10-6, 23-18 and 29-27.

“I think we just wore them down in the fourth quarter,” Carroll said. “We were able to score a few baskets off the turnovers.”

Blanchester was 1-for-11 at the free throw in the first 3 quarters but then “improved” by making 9 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter.

“We didn’t shoot it well from any place … the free throw line, anywhere,” said Carroll. “We missed a lot of layups. We had a bunch of turnovers.

“The only thing we did well was we just stayed after it. It’s hard to play that hard when you’re not putting the ball in the basket. It takes a little bit of mental toughness to do that.”
