Wilmington defeats East Clinton 68-36 behind Jackson’s 32

LEES CREEK – The Wilmington High School girls basketball team defeated East Clinton 68-36 Saturday in a non-league game at the EC gym.

Wilmington senior Mya Jackson had 32 points to lead all scorers and come within five points of outscoring the Lady Astros all by herself.

Jackson’s career total is now 1,876 points. With at least four games remaining on the WHS schedule, Jackson still has an outside shot at 2,000 career points.

She is third all-time in Clinton County basketball history in total points, trailing only Jarron Cumberland (2,408) and the late Donnie Fields (2,135).

Jackson also had six rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Jasmine Jamiel scored 19 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out seven assists and came up with three steals in a solid all-around performance.

Kaitlin Durbin led East Clinton with 12 points.

Wilmington jumped out to a 22-10 lead and never looked back. Jackson scored 16 in the opening frame as the Lady Hurricane established their dominance early.

With Jackson netting nine and Jamiel 12 in the second, Wilmington cruised to a 47-17 halftime advantage.

It was 59-25 after three. WHS made 6 of 13 free throws in the second half.

Wilmington is now 15-4 on the year while East Clinton drops to 7-10.
