MT. ORAB – Western Brown dominated the fourth quarter on Senior Night to down Southern Buckeye Conference American Division champion Clinton-Massie 69-60 Tuesday night.

Until 6:57 left in the game, there had been nine ties and 17 lead changes. Clinton-Massie led by no more than four, 15-11 at the end of the opening period after scoring five straight. Western Brown led by no more than five, 27-22 with 1:09 left in the first half after scoring six straight.

But then the Broncos (14-7, 6-4) broke loose. Tie No. 10 was a Vince Whitaker three to knot the game at 46 with 6:39 to go in the contest. Lead change No. 18 was an Ian Shaffer three 35 seconds later to put Western Brown up 49-46. A second-chance deuce and another of the Broncos 10 bombs on the evening in the next minute made it 54-46 Broncos.

“They did a lot better job hitting their shots. When they came out and hit threes (early in the fourth quarter), that changed the tempo of the game and got the crowd into it,” CM head coach Todd Cook said about Western Brown. “It took us out of our game a little bit. We also had some mistakes when we didn’t go get loose balls.”

Clinton-Massie (16-4, 8-2) managed to cut Western Brown’s lead in half, 57-53, by the 3:08 mark of the final quarter. But the Broncos reeled off seven straight points to build a 64-53 cushion with 1:21 left in the contest.

Western Brown salted away the game at the free throw line after that.

Massie’s Zach Chowning led all scorers with 20 points, including 18 from behind the arc. Daulton Wolfe joined Chowning double figures with 15, including three threes. Brendan Lamb finished with 10.

Josh Taylor led a balanced Bronco scoring attack with 14 points, including 12 from long distance. Whitaker finished with 13 points. Zyon Tull had 12. Liam Keller chipped in with 11.

Western Brown also won the JV game, 67-22, behind Bradley Armstrong’s 19 points. Nate Baker led the Falcons with 12.
