CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Wilmington College baseball team opened its 2019 season Saturday by splitting pair of games at North Central College’s Itchy Jones Stadium.
The Fightin’ Quakers fell to reigning Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) champion North Central College 6-0 in game one and rebounded to shutout Blackburn College 3-0 in game two.
Lance Fleischman picked up a pitching victory for WC in the win over Blackburn, with Bryant McCarty registering the save.
Of note, Wilmington pitchers walked two batters in 17 innings while striking out 15.
Shane Hale collected three hits in the two games.
