Polar Bears run by Quakers 103-94

ADA — Ohio Northern outgunned Wilmington College 103-94 Wednesday in an Ohio Athletic Conference men’s basketball game at the ONU Sports Center.

Both teams shot the ball extremely well — WC was 33 for 61 while ONU was 31 for 66. Both teams were proficient from long distance. The Quakers hit 9 of 19 beyond the three-point arc while the Polar Bears made 11 of 25.

Wilmington drops to 3-15 overall and 2-11 in league play. Ohio Northern is 9-11 overall and 6-7 against OAC foes.

Zach McCorkle hit on 7 of 11 from the field and finished with a game-high 22 points. The Winton Woods High School product grabbed seven rebounds, came up with two steals and blocked two shots.

Andrew Russell had 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Christian Jones had 14 points and six assists. Nathan Scott had 10 points and four assists. DJ Iles handed out six assists.

Ohio Northern had six players reach double figures in scoring, led by Ryan Bruns and Nate Burger who had 16 points each.

Neither team’s defense was terribly effective. ONU had 10 turnovers while WC committed 13.

The Polar Bears held a 40-31 rebounding advantage and used 18 offensive rebounds score 18 second-chance points.

Wilmington’s bench was outscored 39-29.

The largest lead for WC was four midway through the first half. Ohio Northern led by as many as 13 late in the game. The game was tied nine times.
