Jaevin Cumberland, a 2015 graduate of Wilmington High School, is taking his game overseas.

A freshman at Oakland University, Cumberland and his Golden Grizzlies teammates will play in Spain.

The Oakland U. team will leave for Spain on Monday and return Sept. 2. The 10-day trip will include three formal exhibition games against professional international teams and seven days of traveling and sightseeing in Valencia, Ibiza and Barcelona organized by All Aboard Travel.

The Oakland University men’s basketball team is one of over 60 NCAA Division I schools and three Horizon League teams that will take an international trip prior to the 2015-16 season.

Overseas trips in the offseason are allowed once every four years by the NCAA.

The team is able to practice prior to leaving for Spain but will not practice during the trip.

Oakland’s first game will be Thursday, Aug. 27, against the Valencia Basket basketball team. After the game the Golden Grizzlies will head to Ibiza, an island located in the Mediterranean Sea, for a two-night stay.

Oakland’s second game will be Aug. 31 at the Pavelló Els Saioners against La Bruix D’or. On Sept. 1, the Golden Grizzlies will play their final game at the Poliesportiu Municipal del Centre against Club Basquet L’hospitalet.
