WC men fall as Kiwanis Classic nears

GRANVILLE — The Wilmington College men’s soccer team dropped its third straight game as they fell to Denison Wednesday, 3-0, in non-conference action at Barclay Thomsen Field.

The Big Red scored in the 16th minute and then added a second goal in the 25th minutes. Denison paced the play outshooting Wilmington, 21-9, and had a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Denison added a third goal in the 75th minute.

Three players – senior Ethan Zimpfer (Botkins, OH/Botkins), sophomore Grady Garrison (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) and freshman Niklas Martennson (Torna Hallestad, Sweden/NTI) – all had three shots. Garrison recorded the lone shot on goal for the Fightin’ Quakers.

Freshman Nick Latessa (Englewood, OH/Northmont) fell to 1-3 on the season, allowing three goals on seven shots.

Wilmington (1-3) returns home to host the Kiwanis Classic Saturday and Sunday. The Fightin’ Quakers host Maryville 7:30 p.m., while Berea and Wittenberg meet at 5 p.m.
