OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Baseball’s banned “hit king” Pete Rose is going to college.

Miami University in southwest Ohio says Cincinnati Enquirer sports columnist Paul Daugherty will lead a discussion with Rose on campus tonight as part of the school’s fall lecture series. Rose has other events scheduled on the Oxford campus including a question-and-answer session, a dinner with students and faculty members, and a reception.

Rose, a Cincinnati native who holds the career hits record with 4,256, was banned from Major League Baseball in 1989 for betting on baseball.

Now 74, Rose made his debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 1963 and was their manager when banned.

Miami University says the discussion will cover ethical issues and Rose’s playing days, gambling history and efforts to get reinstated.
