WC women drop swimming opener

BEREA – The Wilmington College women’s swim team opened the season with a 134-85 loss to Baldwin Wallace in Ohio Athletic Conference Saturday.

“Both teams swam really well for the first meet,” said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. “We didn’t swim overly nervous. Everyone was excited to race.”

Senior Rachel Drake (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) and sophomore Samantha Glish (Louisville, KY/Ballard) won individual events for the Fightin’ Quakers. Drake won the 100 breaststroke (1:15.88), while Glish won the 50 freestyle (26.75). Glish added a second place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:00.26).

Senior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) placed second in the 50 freestyle (28.45), while junior Elyse Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:10.10).

Junior Haley Rowland (Fairborn, OH/Xenia Christian) placed second in the 1000 freestyle (13:06.64).4The 200 medley relay of Spraul, Drake, Routzong and Glish finished second with the time of 2:01.91.

Wilmington hosts Ohio Northern 6 p.m. Friday in OAC action.
