The Wilmington College women’s swim team fell to Ohio Northern Friday in Ohio Athletic Conference action, 140-61, at the Wilmington College natatorium.

“We swam against Ohio Northern, which is a very good team,” said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. “Obviously they came to race and I think our kids responded for the most part. It kind of gave me some insight on some of the things we need to start working on. We made some improvements from last week, but the improvements need to be accelerated as we move into our competition season.

“We competed well today,” Breen continued. “They need to work on confidence. We have a really young women’s team. Week by week, day by day, the confidence needs to grow; it’s going to be a huge part of the maturation of this team.”

Sophomore Samantha Glish (Louisville, KY/Ballard) continued to swim well in the freestyle sprints. She was third in the 50 freestyle (29.42) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:08.84).

Breen highlighted senior Rachel Routzong’s (Urbana, OH/Urbana) performance in the 200 freestyle. She placed fourth with the time of 2:32.94. Senior Lydia Wolcott (Miamisburg, OH/Bishop Fenwick) in her first career 100 individual medley placed fourth (1:18.86).

Wilmington returns to the pool 1 p.m. Nov. 7 in a home tri-meet with Wittenberg and Transylvania.
