Henry strong on field, in classroom

Wilmington College junior David Henry has been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of American for his work in the classroom.

Henry, a Wilmington High School graduate, was named first team 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District VII. The defensive end moves to the national ballot and the national team will be released Tuesday, Dec. 1.

“David being recognized as first tam Academic All District is such a huge honor,” said Wilmington head coach Stacey Hairston. “I am very happy and excited for him. He has been one of our top leaders on the team in the classroom, on the football field and in the community. It is great to see him getting recognized for his efforts. He deserves it and much more. He represents the type of players that we will continue to bring to our program and the college.”

The junior currently has a 4.0 grade point average in sport management wellness. He is also a member of Wilmington’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Henry is third on the team with 62 tackles, while leading the team with five sacks and 10 tackles for loss. He is third in the Ohio Athletic Conference in both sacks and tackles for loss.

He also leads the league and is 11th nationally in forced fumbles.

Henry is the first Wilmington player since Chad Otte in 2004 to earn CoSIDA’s academic award.

To be selected Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA.

The Academic All-District teams are voted on by Sports Information Directors within a district and the member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee voting on the national ballot. District VII includes every NCAA Division III institution in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
