DELAWARE – The Wilmington College women’s swimming team placed third in the two-day, six-team Ohio Wesleyan Invitational that concluded Sunday.

“Talk about a team that really fought this weekend,” said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. “It was great watching them come together and fight for those close races. It’s not something we haven’t been doing before, but finishing races for the women was a lot of fun to watch.”

Senior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) set a school record in the 100 individual medley (1:09.70). Breen said Routzong has two good races in the event.

Junior Kathryn Spitznogle (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville), after missing the first part of the competitive season with an injury, turned in nice swims in the 100 backstroke and in the 400 medley relay.

The two-day event marked last competitive event for Wilmington until an OAC dual meet against Manchester on January 16.

“There are absolutely things that we have to work on,” said Breen. “This meet has great timing because we really have a month and a half until we compete again. We have a stretch of time where we can work on things without getting up and getting ready for meets. We can focus on our training, and obviously, finishing the semester academically.”
