DAYTON — The Wilmington High School girl basketball team lost a close one to Dayton Carroll 40-37 Monday in a non-league contest.
The loss ends a modest two-game win streak for the Hurricane (2-3). Two of Wilmington’s losses have been by a combined five points.
Carroll (2-4) ends a four-game losing streak with the victory. The Patriots have now been involved in four one-possession games. After losing three in a row by six total points, Carroll was finally on the other side of the ledger.
The Patriots grabbed an early lead, up 12-5 after one. Wilmington rallied within 20-18 at halftime but fell back 32-28 after three periods.
Katie Murphy led WHS with 14 points. Caroline Diels grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Taylor Noszka came off the bench with a solid outing of four points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
