EVENDALE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a suspect in a Maryland slaying was shot and wounded by a police officer along Interstate 75 in suburban Cincinnati.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil says 46-year-old Javier Pablo Aleman was in stable condition after the Tuesday afternoon shooting in the Cincinnati suburb of Evendale. Neil says Aleman is wanted on a warrant from Baltimore County police. Maryland authorities say Aleman is suspected in a man’s fatal stabbing on March 17.

It couldn’t immediately be determined if Aleman has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Police say the Glendale officer who shot Aleman wasn’t injured. They say the shooting happened after the officer approached Aleman to offer assistance as Aleman walked along the highway.

A portion of I-75 about 20 miles north of Cincinnati was closed part of Tuesday afternoon.
