CMH to hold annual free screening event

WILMINGTON — CMH Regional Health System will hold its third annual free health screening event 6 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 13 in the main atrium of Clinton Memorial Hospital.

This year, CMH will offer three free fasting blood tests — basic metabolic profile, complete blood count, and a lipid panel — as well as height, weight and blood pressure screenings. Attendees will be able to register for the patient portal, learn about primary care providers accepting new patients, and get information on new medical staff specialists at CMH.

Greg Nielsen, CEO of CMH, highlighted the importance of this event and the hospital’s community outreach goals.

“This event is really important to us, as we continue to grow our services and offer more to community members in the way of preventive health and wellness,” said Nielsen. “In last year’s screening, we discovered critically high lab results for several patients. Had the event not been open to the public, had the tests not been free, we may never have reached those patients with critical interventional care. We consider basic health screenings a vital part of our outreach efforts each year, and we hope we have an opportunity to reach even more people this year.”

The free lab screenings require fasting, and attendees are asked to fast nine hours prior to coming in. Attendees should continue to drink water and take prescription medications while fasting.
