Clinton County restaurant inspections

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• Gold Star Chili, 942 Cherry St., Blanchester, Aug. 22. Employee belongings stored on single-service cups in dry storage area. No one in facility is Class II food safety certified. Black plastic cup stored in cookie crumbs. Boxes stored on floor of the walk-in freezer. Cabinet by hand sink is coming apart. Counter top in front of hot bar is coming apart. Continental prep cooler has no thermometer. No thermometer in the Rock Star cooler. Prep cooler under counter by cold bar is leaking water in bottom of unit. Towel on counter beside where tomatoes were being prepped. Prep sink in back was leaking water into bucket on the floor. In men’s restroom there is no sign informing employees to wash hands.

Critical: Person in charge unable to tell me what temperature to reheat foods. Large chunk of ham, sausage fingers and a container of sausage gravy in the walk-in cooler that were not dated/labeled. Salad swiss cheese in the prep cooler was at 51°F, and sausage gravy in cooler 55°F. (Must be kept at 41°F or below.) Onion chopper on top shelf of clean items had food debris on it. Hand sink in kitchen had low flow of cold water and no hot water at all.

Follow-up: Approx. Sept. 22.

#1 China Buffet, 1587 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Aug. 23. Follow-up. Level 2 certification unavailable. Grease on pipe under wok and dripping onto floor. Cleaning of facility is better, but still is dirty under woks and around cove molding. Dust accumulation on vents above ovens. Grease build-up on Ansul system and foil covering it. Wall and ceiling over met-cutting area needs repaired. Distilled water unavailable for testing pH.

Critical: Cream cheese 44°F, crab 45°F and noodles 45°F in walk-in cooler. (Must be 41°F or below.) Black residue on inside plate of ice machine.

Follow-up: Sept. 26.

• Taco Bell, 1701 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Aug. 23. Follow-up. Violations have been corrected: 5.2, 4.4, 4.5, 6.2, 6.4. Thank you! Under soda machine in lobby is dirty and there is water pooling. Caulking around mop sink has black mildew growth.

Critical: Ice chute on soda machine in drive-thru is dirty.

• New China Dragon, 103 E. Main St., Blanchester, Aug. 22. Overall sanitation and cleanliness of the facility has improved greatly since last inspection. Thank you! Violations corrected: 2.3, 3.2, 3.4, 4.5, 6.4. There is a cup being used as a scoop in the bulk sugar.

Critical: Containers of meat and vegetables that were not dated. “Clear” bags from grocery used to put veggies and meat in, in the freezer with meat. Discontinue using “grocery bags.”

Follow-up: Approx. Sept. 22.

• American Showa, 3343 SR 28, Blanchester, Aug. 18. Critical: Raw shell eggs stored above gravy in reach-in cooler.

Sour cream/sauces in squeeze bottles, sunflower seeds, etc. stored out of original packaging missing name labels. Boxes of crackers, cups, etc. found on floor in dry storage room. Duct tape observed a repair on sneezeguard at service line. Soda splatter/residue observed on backsplash and soda dispensing area. Dust on wall above/behind cooking equipment.

• Combs Bakery, 1221 Wayne Road, Wilmington, Aug. 18. Follow-up. Violations corrected: 3.2, 4.2, 4.4, 6.4, 2.2. Verification demonstrating employees know when to report illness is unavailable. Documentation must be provided. Provide following to Health Dept.: Corrections to water in floor of walk-in cooler and sealing edge of floor in walk-in cooler.

• Kroger, 1230 Rombach Ave., Wilmington. Aug. 22. All temperatures on salad bar were good. Previous violations have been corrected.

• Clinton County Head Start, 789 N. Nelson Ave., Wilmington, Aug. 22. Critical: Mechanical dishwasher, rinse cycle only reaching 175-176°F. All hot water rinse temperatures must reach at least 180°F to properly sanitize dishes.

Follow-up: Approx. Sept. 22.

• Clinton County Senior Services, 717 N. Nelson Ave., Wilmington, Aug. 22. Display of dishwasher not registering temperature. Vent hoods above the store had dust accumulation. There is a basket of laundry stored in mop sink.

• Eagles Lodge #2222, 113 Wright St., Blanchester, Aug. 22. 3-compartment sink has large rubber tub under plumbing with water in it. Appears plumbing is leaking.

• Snow Hill Country Club, 11093 SR 73, New Vienna, Aug. 23. Follow-up. All previous violations have been corrected. Thank you!

• Wilmington Middle School, 275 Thorne Ave., Wilmington. Aug. 24. Food has been removed from walk-in freezer and placed in freezer truck behind the building. Door is to be replaced by CPS today. If construction work is to be done, it can not be done during serving hours in the cafeteria.

• Paddock Club, 4095 SR 730, Wilmington, Aug. 24. Facility not open (not operating at this time). Everything looks good.

• Wendy’s, 1055 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Aug. 24. Follow-up. Violations corrected: 2.3, 3.4, 4.4. Thank you! There are gnats flying around by pop syrup and used cooking oil container.
