Community Trunk or Treat set for Saturday evening

WILMINGTON — Trick or trunk! Or something like that — the bottom line is candy and fun for the kids and a safe, central environment for all on Saturday.

The first Annual Wilmington Parks & Recreation Trunk or Treat at J.W. Denver Williams Memorial Park is set for 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.

This event consolidates the ones previously held by downtown merchants and makes it not only bigger and better for the kids, but safer for everyone involved — kids and their chaperones won’t have to cross streets and dodge downtown traffic.

Along with plenty of candy, the event will include games, costume contests in a variety of categories, a DJ, a photo booth, and even an outdoor movie complete with popcorn.

Kids 14 and under are encouraged to wear their favorite costume, and they should also bring their own bag to collect treats.

Attendees should enter the park from the Rombach Avenue entrance across from Wendy’s.

The event is an effort of Wilmington Parks & Recreation, Main Street Wilmington and Wilmington College as well as participating businesses and groups.

The regular Beggars Night throughout the county will be 6-8 p.m. on Halloween, Tuesday, Oct. 31
