ADAMS TOWNSHIP — A number of Clinton-Massie High School students were recently recognized for their outstanding musical skills and talents.

Xavier University recently hosted its fourth annual Honor Band Festival which included more than 80 outstanding student musicians representing 22 schools. Several Clinton-Massie students were selected to participate this year including Olivia Swicegood, Colton New, Gunnar Broglin, Nick Bell, Erika Keller, and Connor Hendrickson.

Hendrickson was a featured soloist in a master class performance.

The students had the opportunity to work, learn, and perform under the guidance of various guest clinicians which included Dr. Eric Melley from Providence College and Xavier University music faculty members Joe Murrell and Nave Graham.

According to CM band director Christin McClain, “Xavier University offers a wonderful weekend of music development for our students. This was an exciting opportunity for several of our best band students to extend themselves and learn under the direction of university-level faculty.”

The weekend culminated in a final concert performed in the GSC Theater at Xavier University.

Additionally, several students received recognition at the District 13 OMEA Solo and Ensemble Competition last Saturday at Lakota West High School.

Amelia Binau, Abby George, Gunnar Broglin, Nick Bell, Connor Hedrickson, Brennen Swope, and Olivia Swicegood received a rating of superior for their performances.

Students receiving a rating of excellent included James Riehle, Jenna Norman, DJ Young, Erika Keller, and Logan Reese.
